Breaking free from traditional architectural paradigms, (this birdhouse) Big Sur is a model for minimalism with bold moves. Starting with the soaring overhang paired with a simplified base which creates contrast and ambiguity, it is what I find most fascinating about architecture.
This fully functional bird house has an entry which is not obvious by design, but it does create an entrance which would be difficult for a larger animal to navigate to the interior which provides safety and privacy for the current occupants.
The neutral colors of this piece, permit the shape to take center stage to make a bold statement. The front facade mimics a concrete block wall with openings to let in light and air to the interior.

Big Sur has mitred corners with dowels reinforcing the joints.
My art pieces are made of solid pine timber with little or no knots. Nails, dowels, screws, biscuits and waterproof adhesives were used in the assembly and finished with three to four coats of exterior grade house paint.
Note: All surfaces are painted or sealed, NO raw wood exposed.
All of my birdhouses has a removable access panel which makes cleaning simple for the next nester.
Dimensions: L 19” x D 9” x H 10”
Colors: Natural pine, Sage Green, Deep Red, Black and faux-painted Grey Cement.
